Best Noodles in the North Dallas Area

Posted by Grace on October 28, 2023

A comforting touch for Asians living in America often comes in the form of a steaming bowl of noodles. After exploring many Chinese restaurants in the North Dallas area, here are my favorite noodes in this area.

Spicy and Numbing Beef Offal Noodles (LJ Kitchen)

Spicy and Numbing Beef Offal Noodles

Whenever I find myself at LJ Kitchen (in Chinese, 李季厨房), there's no question about what I'm ordering – the Spicy and Numbing Beef Offal Noodles(in Chinese, 麻辣牛杂面). This dish has become my go-to comfort food. In China, the quality of a soup often hinges on the rich history of its base, and this particular broth does not disappoint. It's a deep, flavorful brew that tells a tale of time and tradition.

The star of the show in these noodles is undoubtedly the generous serving of beef offal. It's hearty, tender, and adds a unique character to the dish. But what truly sets these noodles apart is the numbing sensation that sneaks up on your taste buds. It's like the cherry on top of an already delightful experience.

For those of you who haven't yet discovered LJ Kitchen, it's tucked away in the unassuming no-name food court near Jusgo Supermarket in Plano, Texas. Ordering the Spicy and Numbing Beef Offal Noodles is a breeze – just point to the menu item marked as "D2" and the owner will know exactly what you desire. It's a hidden gem worth seeking out for a spicy, numbing, and utterly satisfying bowl of noodles.

Minced Pork & Yellow Pea Dry Noodle (Noodle China)

Minced Pork & Yellow Pea Dry Noodle

In "Minced Pork & Yellow Pea Dry Noodle" (豌杂干溜小面 in Chinese), the cooked yellow pea blankets the noodles with a delightful array of textures, while the minced pork infuses them with flavor. The unique spice only found in Sichuan cuisine adds the perfect finishing touch to this dish. When you savor it, be sure to thoroughly mix the noodles with the sauce before indulging, allowing the flavors to burst in your mouth.

Interestingly, the English name of the restaurant, "Noodle China" doesn't emphasize the true origin of noodles as much as their Chinese name, "巴蜀小面", where "巴蜀" means the area of Sichuan and Chongqing, "小面" means noodles. Noodles from Sichuan and Chongqing are renowned for their quality and the unique spicy and numbing taste.

When I came to this restaurant for the first time, I was moved to near tears as I was finishing my bowl of Yellow Pea Dry Noodles. It reminded me of the noodles I had when I was in Beijing, China with my parents every time we went back from swimming together. It's a place that evokes nostalgia and cherished memories.

Lamb Noodle Soup and Pita Bread in Mutton Soup (Mashifu Noodles)

Lamb Noodle Soup (羊肉烩面) is THE noodle soup in Henan province, China. Pita Bread in Mutton Soup (羊肉泡馍) is THE dish in Xi'an, China. Both of these areas are famous for their noodles, and this little shop, called Mashifu Noodles (马师傅面馆, which translates to "Master Ma's Noodle Shop" in English), inside the zTAO supermarket has them all.

Believe me, it is extremely difficult to find these two dishes in America. Whenever I find a restaurant serving either of these dishes, I try to go as often as possible so they will never go out of business.

What makes these two dishes amazing is the lamb soup with its burst of flavors. Lamb has a special smell and taste; some people dislike it, while others love it. If you can get the soup right, the dishes should be good.

Lamb Noodle Soup features slices of lamb and noodles that are cut into slices. Pita Bread in Mutton Soup literally puts cubes of bread soaked inside the rich lamb soup.
